Entry Title Date
Executive Session January 23, 2012
Jeff Sessions, R-AL
"Judge Gerrard intervened on his own motion and stayed that execution even though no pleading had been filed. He did it on the basis that while Moore was set for electrocution, he was aware that another case that was coming up to the Supreme Court of Nebraska dealt with the constitutionality of the death by electrocution statute. Apparently the judge did not like the death by electrocution statute. But he stopped it. Technically, I am not sure that was correct. He was criticized by three members of the court, but he did that."
Providing For Consideration Of H.R. 2551, Legislative Branch Appropriations Act, 2012 July 21, 2011
Virginia Foxx, R-NC
"And then up the ante by demanding Republican agreement to tax increases. So first you get the GOP to seize the left’s third rail by daring to lay a finger on entitlements. Then you demand the GOP seize the right’s third rail by violating its no-tax pledge. A full spectrum electrocution. Brilliant."
In Honor Of Lena Baker (Posthumously) January 12, 2011
Sanford Bishop, D-GA
"In January 1945, the board denied clemency. She then was taken to Reidsville State Prison on February 23, 1945. Ms. Baker’s execution date was rescheduled for March 5, 1945. She is the only woman to be executed by electrocution in the State of Georgia."
Commerce, Justice, Science, And Related Agencies Appropriations Act, 2010 October 7, 2009
Richard Durbin, D-IL
"I found it curious, the level of anger and the level of interest when it comes to ACORN. Yet when it turned out that Kellogg Brown & Root—a subsidiary of Halliburton, which was a sole-source contractor during our war in Iraq—was found to have been involved in conduct that led to shoddy workmanship and which cost the life of an American soldier by electrocution and endangered many others; when this same organization was involved in supplying water supplies and sources to our troops that were dangerous; when in fact there was evidence of sexual harassment, I didn’t see the same level of anger coming from the media or from my colleagues on the floor of the Senate. No. But when it comes to ACORN, registering poor people to vote, then we have to take action."
Department Of Defense Appropriations Act, 2010 October 1, 2009
Bob Casey, D-PA
"These are all commonsense reforms. I will focus principally in my remarks—I know we have limited time—on the issue of electrocution."
